NCT Fare Changes

Posted by & filed under All routes.

Some fares on Nottingham City Transport buses will change for the first time in over a year on 5th June because of fuel price rises, although NCT has frozen child, student, weekend family and monthly travel prices to minimise the impact on customers.

Nottingham City Transport uses around 9 million litres of fuel a year and the Company is now paying 10p more a litre for fuel than a year ago, adding £1m to the fuel bill, which cannot be absorbed. City Area fares last increased over a year ago in April 2010 following a 2 year price freeze on the City Bus network.

Fuel prices at the pumps are now at record high levels, averaging around £1.35 per litre, up 15p a litre compared to a year ago, according to the AA.

Marketing Manager, Anthony Carver-Smith stated, “We know any increase in prices is unwelcome and we have worked very hard to freeze the main fares for children, students, families and monthly commuters”.

He continued, “Internally, we have made efficiency savings and all staff groups have agreed to no increase in salary this year, to keep these price rises down to an absolute minimum”.

The popular £4 weekend Group Rider ticket, which allows up to 5 people (max 2 adults) to make unlimited journeys for the day, remains unchanged, along with children and student single fares, which stay at £1.

Although City Area singles will increase to £1.70 and the all day ticket will increase to £3.40, most customers can switch to Easyrider Citycard to keep their travel costs the same and many customers can pass less than they currently do by changing the ticket they buy.

Promotional prices will be advertised on the Company’s Facebook Page and website to incentivise customers to transfer to Easyrider Citycard.
