NCT shortlisted for Bus  Operator of the year 2004
NCT are proud to announce that they have been short listed for the prestigious title “Bus Operator of the Year” for 2004 at the Bus Industry Awards, dubbed as the “Bus Oscars” today.

The purpose of the Bus Industry Awards is to identify excellence and best practice in bus based public transport and attracted some 140 entries this year.

This is the third year that NCT has been successful in the Bus Industry Awards which have been running for 9 years, this reflects the progress the company has made since the launch of the new network in September 2001 and N CT 's commitment to customer service across the network.

Recent improvements at NCT include:

  • Service punctuality ahead of national requirements - 99.8% of all 34,000 weekly journeys operated since October 2003
  • Service reliability exceeding Traffic Commissioner's 95% target – 97.6% of observed journeys departing the City Centre within the window of tolerance “1 minute early, 5 minutes late”
  • Patronage on Go2, N CT 's 15 frequent, low floor services along all the main corridors into the city, up 7.3% during the first quarter (to over 6.05 million passengers) compared to the same quarter last year
  • Go2 services attracting car users – 5% of bus users previously used the car
  • Improved passenger satisfaction – 6 out of 8 service features improved since 1998, 52% users surveyed felt the service had improved
  • 20% of bus fleet fitted with CCTV – target for all buses to be fitted by 2008, for enhanced safety and security

Mark Fowles MD for NCT stated “I am delighted that all the changes made to our network to deliver a customer focussed service have been recognised by the industry. Massive improvements have been made across the company to ensure that NCT operate a safe and reliable bus service for the residents of greater Nottingham, we will continue to develop and improve our network further in line with this aim”.

The annual Bus Industry Awards final takes place on Thursday 18 th November at the London Hilton, and NCT are hopeful that they may win the ultimate accolade this year.

NCT stands with Nottingham against Gun Crime

Nottingham City Transport will be joining the stand against gun crime and gun culture in Nottingham , following the recent tragic death of Danielle Beccan.

In memory of Danielle, people across Nottingham will “stand together” in a minute's silence at 12.30pm on Friday 22 nd October in the Market Square and all across the city. As part of this ceremony, all NCT services in the City, plus the NCT Travel Centre will observe this silence and cease to operate at 12.30pm for 1 minute.

Barrie Burch Commercial Manager for NCT stated “NCT will be observing the minute's silence, as a mark of respect for Danielle and to register its support against gun crime in the city. We are sure our passengers will support us in this action and will also want to show their respect. I do not believe, given the time of day this event is scheduled, that this will disrupt services in any major way”

In addition to this activity, NCT are also providing free transport to bring teachers and pupils from Danielle's school, Elliott Durham into the Market Square .

Nottingham City Transport is one of the founder members of the Respect for Transport partnership, whose mission is to make public transport a cleaner, safer, friendlier and a more pleasant travelling experience for drivers and passengers alike.

The partnership works together to tackle key issues relating to the efficiency and image of public transport. Gun crime is a major problem to all public transport operators in the city, resulting in many windows being shot out, causing disruption to services and additional costs, which in the long term are borne by the customers.

The Respect for Nottingham partnership is currently developing a strategy to reduce this type of behaviour in Nottingham , and is in full support of, the City of Nottingham in its stance against gun crime and gun culture.
