NCT stands with Nottingham against Gun Crime
Nottingham City Transport will be joining the stand against gun crime and gun culture in Nottingham , following the recent tragic death of Danielle Beccan.
In memory of Danielle, people across Nottingham will “stand together” in a minute's silence at 12.30pm on Friday 22 nd October in the Market Square and all across the city. As part of this ceremony, all NCT services in the City, plus the NCT Travel Centre will observe this silence and cease to operate at 12.30pm for 1 minute.
Barrie Burch Commercial Manager for NCT stated “NCT will be observing the minute's silence, as a mark of respect for Danielle and to register its support against gun crime in the city. We are sure our passengers will support us in this action and will also want to show their respect. I do not believe, given the time of day this event is scheduled, that this will disrupt services in any major way”
In addition to this activity, NCT are also providing free transport to bring teachers and pupils from Danielle's school, Elliott Durham into the Market Square .
Nottingham City Transport is one of the founder members of the Respect for Transport partnership, whose mission is to make public transport a cleaner, safer, friendlier and a more pleasant travelling experience for drivers and passengers alike.
The partnership works together to tackle key issues relating to the efficiency and image of public transport. Gun crime is a major problem to all public transport operators in the city, resulting in many windows being shot out, causing disruption to services and additional costs, which in the long term are borne by the customers.
The Respect for Nottingham partnership is currently developing a strategy to reduce this type of behaviour in Nottingham , and is in full support of, the City of Nottingham in its stance against gun crime and gun culture.
