Bus users in Arnold , Bestwood, Plains Estate, Top Valley , Woodthorpe and West Bridgford are the latest to benefit from improved buses, as part of NCT's continued investment in the network.
Brown line services 15, 16 to Bestwood, Top Valley and Rise Park ; and Lime Line services 56, 57, 59 to Sherwood, Woodthorpe, Plains Estate and Arnold have all been upgraded this month and are now operated fully with low-floor easy access buses.
These low floor buses have no steps at the entrance and give improved access for all passengers, but especially those with pushchairs and wheelchair users, with dedicated spaces on board to make the journey easier.
People power has seen 3 double deck vehicles being introduced on to Green Go2 route 6 to West Bridgford and Edwalton. Market research across West Bridgford in spring 2005 showed that Go2 route 6 was very popular with a satisfaction rating exceeding 90%. Service 6 is so popular nearly 40% of users choose to leave the car at home to travel by bus – the highest level on the Go2 network.
In light of this very high success rate and feedback from existing users who requested larger buses, 3 double deck vehicles have been painted into the distinctive Green Go2 livery and will regularly operate on the route. It is expected that the route will be fully double-deck operated in 2006, when the next new batch of buses arrive.
With investment of over £30m in new buses in recent years, passengers in Nottingham enjoy one of the youngest and most accessible fleets in the country. With 85% of the bus fleet now low floor and an average fleet age of 4.6 years, NCT is already exceeding national targets and is well on target to be fully low floor by 2007 – 10 years ahead of national requirements.
