Nottingham City Transport is pleased to pledge a Scania single deck bus to Asia Bus Response, a UK-wide appeal for vehicles by the bus industry. The buses will help rebuild communities and livelihoods in Sri Lanka and Indonesia, countries worst-hit by the Asian tsunami.
Buses will be shipped and distributed by development agency, Islamic Relief. As well as providing vital transportation for people and supplies, Islamic Relief will use the buses to reskill drivers and engineers, and pay those people a living wage.
Mark Fowles, MD for NCT, enthusiastically supports the initiative.
He stated “The Asia Bus Response is a practical means for the bus industry to help those in need re-establish their lives and rebuild their infrastructure and economies. Nottingham City Transport is delighted to contribute to the appeal, and provide a lifeline for shattered communities in Asia”.
He continued “As bus operator of the year, NCT were one of the first operators to be contacted regarding this venture, we have offered a bus towards the appeal and are currently investigating what the bus could be filled with to help the appeal further, NCT are delighted to support the appeal, we know our passengers will support us in this action judging from their generosity in the collection box at our travel centre”.
