NCT Service delays in the lead up to the Turning Point

As the final stages of works for the major Turning Point traffic changes are put in place ready for 24th July, Nottingham City Transport would like to apologise to all passengers who are experiencing delays and disruption to their services as a consequence of this activity.
We have, and will continue to, work very closely with the City Council to try and minimise any disruption of these important city centre construction works. However, the project has entered a significant period in the lead up to the major changes taking place on this date. To minimise this difficult time the City Council have contractors working night and day.

From 24th July , Milton Street and part of Parliament Street around the Victoria Centre will permanently become restricted routes for essential traffic like buses, taxis, blue badge holders, emergency services and cyclists, who will be able to use these routes at all times, with alternative new routes through the city centre for general traffic.

These changes will result in reduced city centre traffic, better pedestrian facilities and improved bus connections and journey times , benefiting thousands of shoppers, visitors, workers and bus passengers.

NCT are not able to change bus routes and timetables in line with these current works as they are all of a very short term nature, details of any longer term changes or diversions are available on the NCT website www.nctx.co.uk or from the NCT Travel Centre 0115 950 60 70.

Barrie Burch, Commercial Manager for NCT requested that passengers are patient and allow a little more time to make their journey until the end of the month, he said “Please don’t blame our drivers or the City Council contractors, remember, you will benefit from these changes when they’re finished”.

The Turning Point is an £11.7 million Government investment to radically improve the way people travel around the Victoria Centre, Royal Centre and Trinity Square area. It will help to make the city centre more appealing by reducing traffic and is already linked to exciting new developments. The scheme is on schedule to be completed by the end of 2006.

Summary of Turning Point implications for bus users

From 24th July, many bus stops in the city will be relocated to Milton Street and Parliament Street. They will both become two-way streets with bus stops on both sides of the road.

• Trinity Square closed to buses
• Long Row (outside Debenhams)closed to buses
• New bus stops on Upper Parliament St (on the Blue Bell pub side) & Milton St

Services with new stop locations:
Brown and Yellow services will move from Trinity Square to new stops in Milton St
• Purple services will move from Trinity Square to new stops in Upper Parliament Street
• Lime services will move from Long Row to new stops in Upper Parliament Street
• Calverton Connection will move from Long Row (outside Debenhams) to Upper Parliament Street

Some services will no longer drop off passengers outside the Elite or Nottingham Building Society in Upper Parliament Street; some will remain at their present stops but will be temporarily moved whilst works are carried out (notices will be displayed at the time); and some stops will move only a short distance along the same street.

More detailed information, including new timetables, will be available 11th July 2005 from the NCT Travel Centre and website www.nctx.co.uk

There will be an exhibition of the Turning Point traffic changes taking place in the Old Market Square (opposite the Council House) from 18th until 26th July from 10am until 4pm each day.
Passengers will be able to see the plans, speak to the people involved on the project as well as staff from NCT, and pick up more information, new bus timetables, as well as enter a free prize draw for a brand new bike and many other prizes.
