Nottingham City Transport has been working in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council to improve the bus network in West Bridgford from early December. The new network has been created in response to the NCT passenger survey undertaken earlier this year.
The survey generated a very positive response rate (16.3%) from local residents, who indicated an overall satisfaction rating of 78.4% for existing West Bridgford bus services. However, it did identify some areas for improvement on various routes, namely frequency, size and type of bus operated. These preferences have been built into the new network wherever possible, along with requests from the users of the Bridgford Lynx service operated by the County, to provide links into the City as well as around West Bridgford.
The new network builds upon the three successful Go2 services 6, 10 and 11 which offer residents, a daytime ten minute or better frequency, with midnight departures and low floor buses. Other Bridgford services 5, 7, 8 and 9 will enjoy an increased daytime frequency to every ½ hour, in addition they will be operated using low floor buses. These services will replace the existing Bridgford Lynx service and have slight modifications to some routes to ensure passengers can get to the places they need to go in the town and the city.
In addition to the NCT commercial routes, a three-way partnership between NCT, the City and County Councils has resulted in a Monday – Saturday “Local Link” service connecting residents between Silverdale, Clifton Village, Clifton, Ruddington,West Bridgford and Lady Bay. This service will operate a demand responsive service around Clifton Village and Stanhome Square as well as serving other areas in West Bridgford providing links to health centres and local shops. Service 3 will continue its existing route from Silverdale and Wilford to the City Centre via Asda and West Bridgford Town Centre.
Councillor Stella Smedley, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We are very happy to be working in partnership with NCT (and the City Council) to improve transport links across the West Bridgford area as well as into the city.”
Councillor Brian Grocock, Chair of Transport and Street Services, Nottingham City Council said ‘This new network of services will give City residents much improved access to local shopping, health and leisure facilities’.
As part of these changes the NCT Go2 service 10 will terminate in Ruddington at The Green. It will no longer continue up to Rushcliffe Business and Country Park as patronage is extremely low and not commercially viable. Nottinghamshire County Council is currently investigating alternative bus services to provide a peak link to this site.
The new Bridgford Network will operate from Sunday 4th December, full details of the services, routes maps and timetables will be available from the NCT Travel Centre and website from mid November.
