A further batch of brand new, high capacity double deck buses has been ordered by NCT to upgrade the popular Pink Go2 route 28 to Bilborough.
As part of NCT’s continuing fleet investment programme, which has seen over £30m spent on new buses in the past few years and the average fleet age drop by more than half from over 11 years to just below 5 years since 2000, 9 more new double deck buses are currently being built by Scania for delivery in May 2006.
The first Scania OmniDekka bus joined the NCT fleet in September 2003 and having proven popular with passengers and drivers, is now the standard double deck bus purchased by NCT and the latest delivery will increase the number in the fleet to 76, accounting for just over a quarter of all buses NCT operate.
The Scania OmniDekka can accommodate 90 seated passengers; is low floor accessible, with spaces available for wheelchairs and pushchairs; is fully fitted with CCTV for passenger and driver safety/security and has extra leg room between the seats for improved journey comfort.
Nicola Tidy, Marketing and Communications Director commented, “In the bright and distinctive Pink Go2 livery, these new buses with all the latest features will really benefit the 150,000 people who use the 28 every month and show NCT’s commitment to vehicle investment in Nottingham”.
The NCT fleet currently comprises 85% low floor and the Company is on target to achieve a full low floor fleet by 2007, several years ahead of national legislative requirements.
