New improved buses for NCT Go2 route 28 to Bilborough

Nine, new Scania Omni Dekka buses will go into service this week on NCT Go2 pink routes to Strelley and Bilborough (service 28), demonstrating the company’s commitment to providing state of the art modern buses, no older than 6 years old, on its 15 Go2 services aimed at commuters.

Passengers in Bilborough and along the Ilkeston Road will shortly enjoy new Go2 buses on route 28. These buses are slightly different to any other buses in the Go2 fleet, they have been enhanced as a result of passenger feedback and NCT have improved the new buses this year as follows:

  •  New lower deck 2+1 seating with new Go2 seat designs, providing more room for seated passengers, buggies, wheelchairs and standing passengers
•  Pink, colour coded, new look buses, with more passenger information on the exterior, which is easier to read from a distance and a more recognisable Go2 logo which we will roll out across the fleet over time
•  Passenger notice board for the latest information about our services
• Passenger information screens showing CCTV images, adverts and next stop information (system operational autumn 2006)
• Also coming in autumn 2006, service 28 will be the first Go2 route with real time service information along the route, giving passengers actual live information as to the whereabouts of the bus. This joint NCT and City Council project will then be rolled out across the entire network over the next 5 years

These new low floor buses also offer the highest level of security to drivers and passengers alike, with a driver’s protection screen fitted to the cab door, an attack alarm and of course CCTV cameras and recording devices.

The new 90 seater 12 metre vehicles, built on the N94 chassis and bodied by East Lancashire Coachbuilders, have already been well received by Go2 passengers on NCT services 17, 27, 44/45, 48, 58, 77 and 89. Patronage on all routes where these buses have been introduced has increased, it is hoped this will also be the case on route 28 which is one of NCT’S busiest routes.

Mark Fowles MD for NCT stated “We are very pleased with the Scania Omni Dekka buses, passengers really appreciate these light and spacious buses, they are very comfortable, safe and environmentally friendly. We believe the new improvements will delight our passengers and increase patronage further, with a 10 minute day time frequency, this has to be the most cost effective way to travel to and from the city on most occasions for people living in Biborough.”

Potential passengers along the route will receive a mailer about the service and new buses, plus an introductory offer to try the service, using the NCT Easyrider Anytime card – a “pay as you go” discounted smartcard for all day travel from less them £2.00 per day on NCT buses in the City area.

The new buses will go into service on Go2 service 28 week commencing 17th July 2006, at a cost of £1.5m to NCT.
