NEW NCT UNILINK SERVICE FOR NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Nottingham City Transport are launching a second Unilink service to ensure that University of Nottingham staff and students get the very best in transport when they travel from the city to University Park this academic year. NCT has worked with the university and Nottingham City Council to provide a more frequent term-time service that ensures easy access from and around the campus for students and staff.

Unilink 34 will be officially unveiled on Thursday 21st September at University Park and will be commencing operation on the 25th September at the beginning of term.

The fully branded Optare solo bus, complete with University of Nottingham livery in orange compliments the NCT orange services 35 & 36 which run along Derby Road into the city. Unilink 34 however will run in and around the University Park campus to key buildings, operating on a 12 minute daytime frequency. This service unlike other NCT orange routes will follow the full city loop taking students to Broadmarsh and the station, Victoria Centre and the Old Market Square.

To support this service the City Council will put real time information displays , along the whole route, new shelters with lighting, CCTV and easily accessible platforms. There are bus lanes along most of the route, in both directions and the package of improvements promoted under the Big Wheel.

Councillor Brian Grocock, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Transport and Street Services, said: “The City Council is pleased to be involved in the introduction of this service, which will give students regular easy access into the city centre and around the campus. We are confident that it will mirror the success of the popular Trent University service and will help to cut congestion.”

NCT have also set up easyrider smart card academic and term offers for University of Nottingham students where they can enjoy unlimited travel across the NCT and NET networks during term time for £1 a day.

Barrie Burch Commercial Manager for NCT stated “Following the success of the Unilink 4 service operated to NTU we are delighted to launch a second Unilink for The University of Nottingham. This partnership project really proves what can be achieved in the public transport field if there is a real will to develop and encourage its use. I am sure the students will use this excellent new service extensively”

Unilink Service 34 will run from the City Centre following the City Loop to the University Park Campus where it follows a loop on site to most key buildings, the service will operate every 12 minutes, Monday to Friday between 0723 from Broadmarsh finishing at 1916 at the Elite stop in the City. The journey will take just under 30 minutes.
