Following a 6 week public consultation period for passengers to have their say on proposals for bus services in the north-west of the City, NCT can now announce the final network of services to be introduced on Yellow and Turquoise line services from Sunday 25 March 2007.
Passenger feedback welcomed the package of proposals with the increased frequencies and introduction of low floor buses to all buses on Highbury Vale, Hyson Green and the Bulwell Estates particularly welcomed. The majority of the proposals will now be introduced as originally published.
Two aspects of the proposals generated concerns for passengers and NCT has re-examined the proposals to take into account this important feedback as well as representations by locally elected councillors. The two aspects were:
- Withdrawal of the bus service between Bulwell & Highbury Vale and Hyson Green
- Withdrawal of the bus service between Heathfield Estate and Brooklyn Road , Highbury Vale and Bulwell
In response to these passenger comments, NCT will modify the route and frequency of the proposed service 80. The 80 will operate the proposed route between City Victoria Centre, Canning Circus, Radford Road , Hyson Green ASDA, Northgate, Nottingham Road , Perry Road , City Hospital and the Heathfield Estate, but will now continue beyond the Heathfield Estate along the existing service 72 route ( Arnold Road , Park Lane , Brooklyn Road , Piccadilly, Highbury Road ) to Bulwell Bus Station.
The 80 will operate every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes with some additional peak time journeys.
The extended route for service 80 through to Bulwell caters for the two key areas of concern passengers identified as part of the consultation period. The revised route reinstates the bus link between Bulwell and Highbury Vale with Hyson Green and Canning Circus, with connections past the City Hospital . The extension also reinstates the service between Heathfield Estate and Highbury Vale, Bulwell currently provided by the 72 service.
Commenting on the changes to proposals, Nicola Tidy NCT Marketing and Communications Director said: “Passenger consultation has enabled us to fine tune our Yellow and Turquoise line proposals. We are encouraged that the majority of feedback welcomed the proposals and we have modified service 80 to incorporate comments where passengers thought we should look again.”
Other changes to the proposals include:
- Enhancement of service 77 on Monday to Friday daytimes to operate every 8 – 10 minutes to provide additional capacity for passengers
- Extra journeys to/from Blenheim Industrial Estate including for shift changeovers at 14.00
- Some early morning journeys (service 81) from Bulwell, Highbury Vale to Hyson Green and Canning Circus
- Bulwell “Local Link” route finalised to operate from Bulwell Bus Station to Norwich Gardens , Morrisons, Bulwell Hall Estate with demand responsive elements for Rock Street , Longford Crescent and Lawton Street .
- Local Link funded by Nottingham City Council and operated on their behalf by Nottingham Community Transport
