Passengers on Nottingham City Council's Link 1 service and Nottingham City Transport's service 48 are in line for shorter journey times thanks to a raft of improvements carried out by the City Council.
In order to improve journey times, the traffic signals at the Queens Drive/Crossgate Drive junction have been altered to give priority to buses accessing the Meadows, together with a new ahead facility for buses continuing along Queens Drive . Previously passengers have had to sit and wait while the general traffic on Queens Drive had priority.
The new ahead movement has been provided for the Link 1 service (buses currently have to leave the bus lane in order to continue along Queens Drive) and a new linking facility has been installed which triggers the traffic lights when the bus leaves the stop so that the lights will be green as the bus approaches.
Ian Combellack, Nottingham City Council's Public Transport Officer, said: “Nottingham City Council is committed to maintaining and enhancing the quality and reliability of bus services in the City. The changes to the traffic signals at Crossgate Drive should improve the reliability and punctuality of buses travelling into the City, whilst reducing journey times for passengers”.
The latest changes are part of a package of improvements which have already been introduced on the Queen's Drive corridor including:
increased frequency of the Link 1 service to every 8 minutes during the daytime Mondays to Fridays
electronic displays at key stops showing scheduled timetable information
raised kerbs and improved lighting at all bus stops
extended operating hours of the Link 1 service on weekday evenings
Further improvements set to be introduced this spring will include larger capacity vehicles to cater for the continuing increase in demand, and electronic displays to go "live" displaying real time information.
