Training Manager, Mike Lee at Nottingham City Transport says, “The design and delivery of the Foundation Degree was a proactive response by HR to a significant organisational issue: the development of a key group of managers responsible at the tactical, operational level, for moving the business forward over the next five to ten years.
The focus on work-based learning – the use of real-life work issues as the basis for assignments on which participants bring to bear the insights from taught modules has enabled significant progress to be made on problems faced by the organisation across its functions.
Three of the employees have earned promotion and one has had her role significantly extended. One man who has benefited is Steve Ferris who, since studying on the Foundation Degree, has been promoted to Garage Manager for the South. He says, “The personal development modules really enabled me to understand myself and the way I work, which helps me to understand others and develop them. The Foundation Degree has been the most worthwhile educational exercise I have participated in, and it has certainly broadened my horizons, not only at work, but also personally, enabling me to further develop my career. It has been worth all the time and effort I put in.”
