WITNESS APPEAL AFTER FIREWORK THROWN IN BUS

Thursday 15 November 2007

Nottinghamshire Police is investigating an incident where a man threw a firework through a bus window.

The incident happened on Greythorn Drive in West Bridgford, near to South Notts College, at about 10.30pm on Wednesday 31 October 2007. A number 10 Nottingham City Transport double decker bus, travelling to Ruddington from Nottingham, had stopped when a white man aged between 15-18 years old, possibly wearing a grey hooded top, threw a firework into the driver's cab. The offender is thought to have run off in the direction of the playing fields.

Paramedics treated the bus driver for a minor singe injury to his leg and for shock.

The bus has been forensically searched and CCTV has been examined.

Inspector Norman England, local area commander for Rushcliffe North, said: “Thankfully the bus driver only sustained minor injuries but the consequences do not bear thinking about. This irresponsible act could potentially have caused serious or fatal injuries and the bus to crash.
“We are treating this very seriously and the offender will be dealt with as severely as possible.”

It is thought that there were about eleven passengers on the bus at the time and police officers investigating the incident would like to speak to anyone who was on the bus at the time.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident should contact Pc 3172 Dave Ward at West Bridgford Police Station on 0115 967 0999 ext 6564 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
