500 free days of bus travel are being offered to Nottingham residents as part of NCT’s continued support of the GOJO campaign.
GOJO, launched in Nottingham on 10 May 2007 when comedian Paul Betny performed a live stand-up comedy act on a service 36 from Beeston to City, is for the thousands of young people aged 16-25 who have difficulties in, or lack confidence using, public transport.
GOJO is a Disability Rights Commission campaign, supported by local transport operators, charities and youth groups. NCT in Nottingham is a key partner in the campaign.
The centre-piece of the campaign is the website – at www.mygojo.co.uk – which gives new and detailed information on how to plan a journey around the city. The website provides practical hints and tips to increase young people's confidence travelling on public transport along with information on special deals for young people in the city and how to travel there.
NCT is supporting GOJO who are encouraging bus travel by young people and their friends and families over the Summer Solstice weekend, 21st to 24th June 2007, by offering free Easyrider Anytime cards credited with 2 days free NCT bus travel. 250 tickets will be given away to people who enter a free prize draw on the mygojo.co.uk website.
To win a free Easyrider Anytime card, an application form is available on the GOJO website – www.mygojo.co.uk – which can be downloaded and posted to NCT. The Anytime card will then be returned by post to applicants to enjoy free bus travel in Greater Nottingham to take advantage of the many other offers available through GOJO, including discounts at Frankie & Benny’s, the Broadway Cinema and AMF Bowling.
Commenting on the latest initiative for GOJO, Anthony Carver-Smith NCT Network Development and Quality Controller said, “NCT are again pleased to support GOJO with this exciting Summer Solstice offer. The GOJO campaign is an excellent way to communicate that bus services are becoming more accessible for people and brings together publicly many “behind-the-scenes” activities NCT and the local authorities have been doing”.
Sir Bert Massie Chairman of the DRC said: “We are really confident that our GOJO campaign will inspire young people across Nottingham to get out and about between now and the end of the ‘Longest Weekend’. Thanks to commercial partners like NCT we have loads of great offers on our website as well as ideas for fun things to do.”
