£800,000 has been invested by NCT in 5 brand new Scania OmniDekka buses for Lilac line routes 23 and 24 to Sneinton Dale and Bakersfield.
The new buses have been delivered to meet NCT’s high specification with: low floor wheelchair accessible entrances; CCTV fitted throughout; extra leg room for passenger comfort; passenger notice boards and information screens showing CCTV and adverts; real time equipment fitted to offer actual bus departure times and “next bus” information.
Services 23, 24 offer a 10 minute Monday to Saturday daytime service from Bakersfield and Sneinton Dale to the City Centre with average journey times of around 20 minutes. In the evenings and on Sundays buses run every 15-20 minutes, with the route offering excellent frequencies at all times and convenient City Centre stops at Victoria Centre and on King Street.
These new buses are also unique to the NCT fleet because they are the first environmentally friendly, Euro 4 EGR double deck buses to enter service in the City.
Scania's preferred system, EGR attacks emissions at source, allowing buses to continue running on standard diesel fuel. Some of the exhaust gases are recycled back into the engine which gives lower nitrogen oxide emissions. Scania EGR combines lower emissions with excellent operating economy and the system reduces emissions in all conditions and is ideal for city buses travelling at low speed with frequent stops in urban areas.
