A meeting between Nottingham City Transport (NCT), School Governors, representatives from Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Local Authorities plus a representative from the school parents body, took place on Friday 18th April to discuss future school transport arrangements from Clifton and Gotham to the school, plus and fare levels charged to the pupils following the recent fares increase.
The meeting was both constructive and useful and resulted in an agreed way forward as follows:-
- Current child fares between Clifton and the school will continue to be held until Whitsun half term (Thursday 22 May 2008).
- From Monday 2 June 2008 until the end of term, the cash child return fare between Clifton and the school will increase to £3.00.
- From Monday 2 June until Friday 18 July 2008 NCT has agreed to limit the increase in the child return fare to and from school using a Fare Card to 20p – taking the new fare to £2.00 child return
- NCT will arrange an onsite facility at Harry Carlton School during the week beginning 12 May 2008 to issue Fare Cards to all students requesting them.
- Post 16 students making this journey using a Fare Card will also be entitled to the under 16 rate to travel to & from school.
- From the start of the new academic year in September 2008 the child return fare between Clifton and Harry Carlton School using a Fare Card will increase by a further 40p to £2.40.
NCT also confirmed that Service 1 for the new academic year starting in September 2008 will continue to provide the capacity to carry students from the Clifton area to Harry Carlton School.
Nottinghamshire County Council has agreed to make alternative and separate arrangements to transport students from the Gotham area to and from Harry Carlton School using their current Travel Pass from September.
Stuart Nobles Chair of Governors stated “We are delighted with this outcome and believe this will ensure parents have time to plan future travel arrangements for their children next year.” He continued that “Harry Carlton School looks forward to a continued positive relationship with NCT regarding safe transport of its pupils”.
