South Notts Service 1 to Harry Carlton School

At a meeting before Easter of representatives from NCT, Nottinghamshire County Council and Harry Carlton School, NCT advised that it is currently reviewing the performance of its Nottingham to Loughborough service. As part of this review, NCT is analysing the financial performance of the extra resources put into the service to cater for the movement of out of area school children between Clifton and Harry Carlton School.

During this meeting, NCT also explained the position with regard to the fares increase planned for 30.3.08 and agreed to delay it for Harry Carlton pupils until Monday 14th April, to ensure all pupils could be made fully aware of the new fare structure. Leaflets explaining the changes were supplied to the school for issue to the pupils affected.

The agreed outcome of this meeting was that NCT would provide information and invite further consultation as they developed their plans.

Following this meeting, Harry Carlton invited parents to an open public meeting on Thursday 10th April to discuss the matter making reference to NCT's intention to reduce the number of vehicles available.

NCT did not attend the public meeting which they felt was premature and inappropriate, since no final decisions have been taken over service levels at this time, the review is at an early stage and will be partly determined by the effect that the fares increase has on revenue earned on the journeys under consideration.

NCT issued a statement for the meeting and offered a further meeting with the school, the governors and relevant local authorities to find an a way forward on this important issue to ensure that Harry Carlton pupils from Clifton can travel to school in a safe and cost effective manner.

Today, NCT have agreed to freeze child fares to Harry Carlton school for a further 2 weeks until 28 th April 2008 and will be meeting with representatives from Harry Carlton school (headmaster, governors & 2 parent representatives) Nottinghamshire County Council & Nottingham City Council during this time to discuss this matter further.

Once this process is complete and decisions have been finalised, NCT will participate in a structured communication process to pupils and parents about the future Service 1 timetable for the new school year
