NCT - Network Changes - March 2009

From Sunday 29th March 2009, a small number of changes will be made to the NCT network as part of our ongoing network review and development process. For most customers the changes are very slight, although there are important changes to the 26, 44, 45, 80, 81 and 100.

New timetables are shown as PDF’s below – we’re reprinting most leaflets although services with an asterisk (*) will be reprinted when existing stocks are exhausted.

Lilac Go2 21: City to Carlton Valley

The Sunday evening frequency from approx. 20:00 will be reduced to every 40 minutes. Buses in the late Sunday evening have been running with few passengers on them and by reducing the frequency we are making a more responsible use of our bus and driver resources.

Lilac Line 25: City to Carlton, Mapperley and Arnold

On Mondays to Fridays, the 09:04 journey from Mapperley Shops to the City Centre is withdrawn. The 08:17 journey from City to Arnold is retimed to better reflect traffic conditions on the route. Buses from Westdale Lane through to Arnold will be up to 5 minutes later.

Lilac Line 26: City to Carlton and Burton Joyce

A revised timetable will be introduced, with buses also running from the City Centre to Burton Joyce, Shaftesbury Avenue to provide extra peak time journeys, supporting service 100.

Ecolink 30: City to Wollaton Vale*

On Mondays to Fridays, the 09:00 journey from Wollaton Police Station will operate 5 minutes later.

Blue Line 40, 41: City to St Ann’s and City Hospital*

On Saturday mornings an extra journey will run to and from the City Hospital Campus. The 06:08 journey from The Wells Road Top (40) will now start at the City Hospital Green Entrance at 05:57 and the 06:30 journey from Victoria Centre (41) will be extended through to the Hospital as service 40, arriving 06:57.

Red Go2 44, 45: City to Mapperley, Gedling, Netherfield, Colwick, Sneinton and City*

Following continued passenger growth, we’re introducing 2 extra buses onto the 44, 45 services to increase capacity on these routes during Monday to Friday peak periods.
The extra buses allow us to enhance the frequency up to every 8 minutes at the busiest times on Woodborough Road; towards the City Centre in the morning peak and from the City Centre between approx 16:00 and 18:00.
Initially these extra buses will be single deck vehicles whilst we await delivery of new double deck buses in the summer. We’re sure you will agree that running more buses (though smaller) is better than waiting longer on the current timetable with just the double decks. We’re expecting the two extra double decks to be on the road for September at the latest.
For Netherfield and Colwick, there will be a much requested earlier bus arriving in the City Centre at 05:43 as well as some tightening up of journey times on the buses arriving on Queen Street at 06:33 and 07:03 – both buses will run up to 5 minutes earlier from Wollaton Avenue onwards.

Service 53: Arnold to Ring Road, Q.M.C. and Clifton

Following the enhancement in frequency to half-hourly back in September 2006, we're disappointed that passenger levels have remained very poor on Saturdays and we're reducing the number of buses to better reflect passenger demand. Buses will now again operate hourly on Saturdays.

Turquoise Line 80, 81: City Centre to Hyson Green, Basford and Bulwell

The 80, 81 will join the City Council's funded Local Link network of services. The 80 will become L14 and the 81 will become L13. There are no changes to the routes for these services, however, the timetables have been changed to better reflect passenger demand and the basic 30 minute service will now operate across the Monday to Saturday daytime.

Pathfinder 100: Nottingham to Burton Joyce, Lowdham and Southwell

We have to make some important changes to help ensure Pathfinder 100 breaks-even. Sadly, despite our £1m investment in new high quality buses (which you’ve told us you love) and the new timetable introduced last March (which has solved the reliability problems) Pathfinder 100 hasn’t been covering its running costs for several months and has lost nearly £110,000 this financial year.
To improve the viability of the service and secure Pathfinder 100 for the long-term, we will be making changes to the route, timetable as well as the fares.

Route

To reduce costs on Pathfinder 100, we need to straighten out the route and speed up the overall journey between Nottingham and Southwell. This allows us to operate the same core level of service for the majority of passengers, but with fewer buses and drivers.
For this reason, Lowdham Village will no longer be served by Pathfinder 100 and all buses will now stop on the A612 Main Road, near the War Memorial. New bus stops will be put in place for when the route changes.
We are sorry that we can no longer serve Lowdham Village, but by running straight along the Main Road we are able to save around 7-8 minutes in each direction, speed up the overall journey and achieve significant cost savings.

Timetable

With changes to the route, a new timetable will be introduced on all days; however buses will still be running up to every 20 minutes during the Monday to Saturday daytime and hourly in the evenings and on Sundays.
Whilst changing the timetable, we have also taken the opportunity to respond to customer feedback:
·  The service has been re-timed to speed up journey times and reduce waiting along the route
·  The morning peak time service from Southwell is improved
·  Extra buses will operate between the City Centre and Burton Joyce, to increase capacity at peak times
·  The 21:00 bus on Fridays will now operate through to Southwell, rather than terminating at Lowdham
·  The last bus from Southwell will be extended all the way into Nottingham

Fares

As well as changes to the route and timetable, it is unavoidable for us to also have to increase some fares on this service outside the City Area boundary, where the rural nature of the route means there are less passengers to absorb the costs of operation.
The most cost effective way to travel is with Easyrider Farecard, which automatically gives a 20% saving off the cost of the cash price.
For many customers, the new fares are lower than when NCT purchased Pathfinder over 10 years ago and the cost of using the bus remains competitive against the car.

From Sunday 29th March 2009, fares will be:
Pathfinder Fares 2009

New fares for journeys outside the City Area will be:

Adult

Single:  £2.00 cash, £1.60 Farecard.
Return:  £3.50 cash, £2.80 Farecard.

Child

Single:  £1.50 cash, £1.20 Farecard.
Return:  £2.50 cash, £2.00 Farecard.

Don’t forget our Network Rider Ticket, which at £6 Adult, gives unlimited bus and tram journeys on all NCT services and can save you money if you make additional journeys inside Greater Nottingham.

A Group Network Rider at £10 covers up to 5 people (min. 1 adult, max 2 adults) and is the money saving way for a family to travel by bus to Nottingham and back from just £2 each!

Worklink W3: City to Bilborough and Nottingham Business Park

Additional journeys are introduced from the City Centre at 07:50 and from Nottingham Business Park at 16:45, thanks to additional funding support from Nottingham City Council. The 18:11 journey from Glaisdale Park will now also start at Nottingham Business Park at 18:15.
