Nottingham’s biggest bus operator, Nottingham City Transport has been shortlisted in both the Top National Bus Driver and The Award for Sustained Marketing Excellence categories at the distinguished UK Bus Awards.
Nottingham City Transport is celebrating its 14th consecutive year of being shortlisted at the revered ceremony in London. These top industry awards, established in 1996, have reached a landmark year, with the 20th contest taking place on 24th November this year.
Nominated for the Chris Moyes Memorial Award for Top National Bus Driver is Phil Rowson. Phil drives NCT’s Orange Uni 34 and beat over 800 drivers to win NCT Driver of the Year in January.
Known as “you’re welcome”, due to his efforts towards learning overseas student passengers’ native languages, it’s doubtless this dedication, warmth and friendly attitude impressed the UK Bus Award judges, and Phil is looking forward to travelling down to the awards ceremony next month.
“I think my wife is even more pleased than I am as she’s the one who persuaded me to enter NCT’s Driver of the Year in the first place!” says Phil.
But it’s not only those on the frontline making NCT proud this year, as NCT has also been shortlisted for its digital media in The Award for Sustained Marketing Excellence category. With an award entry title of ‘Tweet, Tweet – Keeping Customers ‘App-y through Digital Marketing’ it demonstrates that classic bus driver values combined with fresh and modern marketing ensured NCT recognition for yet another successive year.
Tony Depledge, UK Bus Awards Chairman, recognised the hard work poured into the industry, commenting that judging had become more difficult. “Judging the entries has become steadily more difficult over the years as the quality has risen, but that’s a challenge we all relish because it is so encouraging. All judges – over 40 independent experts in all – really enjoy reading about all the hard work and commitment that goes into our industry, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Marketing Manager, adds, “Every nomination is a reason to celebrate, but achieving the shortlist of the UK Bus Awards – the industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony – for the 14th year in a row feels really special. We won Bus Operator of the Year last year and also picked up the Top National Driver Award too, but I am most proud of how many different categories NCT has been nominated in over the years. It shows that both our staff and services are highly commended by the industry.”
