Engineering Minor Defects Operative - Nights

The Engineering Department has a vacancy for a Minor Defects Operative at Parliament Street Garage. Based in the centre of Nottingham City, you will be responsible for checking and rectifying minor vehicle defects and undertaking general activities including fleet checks and modifications.

As a Minor Defects Operative, you will collate information from the Company’s Freeway Vehicle Maintenance System and enter rectified defect information. In addition, you will report items for repair and maintenance to the Support Supervisors and or Engineering Manager, dependant on the defect.

Other duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Raising vehicle defect reports
  • Undertaking all necessary minor repairs to enable the vehicle to enter service. However, no safety critical defect tasks to be undertaken i.e. brakes, steering or gas leaks.
  • Undertaking any vehicle modifications or campaigns as directed
  • Assisting with vehicle allocations (Run-Out) and handover

About You:

You will be a semi-skilled HGV or PCV Mechanic with basic running repair capabilities and hold a car and PCV driving licence. You will be computer literate, as you will be expected to read defects from the Freeway System, log onto jobs and sign them off electronically once the job is completed.

  In addition, you will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, manufacturers and suppliers
  • Operate as an efficient team member taking responsibility and ownership when required
  • Continually develop knowledge and skills and mentor less experienced colleagues

Have a strong work ethic and understand the need to be reliable and flexible

Hours of Work and Rates of Pay:

  • Wednesday to Saturday, 9.25hrs each night with a half hour unpaid meal break
  • 37 hours per week
  • £18.32 per hour (enhancements for Saturday/Sunday working)
