Nottingham City Transport is participating in a scheme that will see children and young people across Leicestershire take advantage of free bus travel this Easter.
On NCT, anyone aged 18 or under boarding South Notts 1 in Loughborough will be able to travel free between 09:30 and 23:00 on Mondays to Fridays and all day at weekends and bank holidays from Saturday 23rd March to Sunday 7th April.
- Free travel available when boarding at any stop in Loughborough (Baxter Gate to Station Boulevard inclusive)
- You can travel to any stop on South Notts 1 through to Nottingham
- If you’re making a one way trip, ask for a single Under 19 ticket
- If you’re making a return trip, ask for a return Under 19 ticket.
- You will not be able to board for free outside Loughborough without a return ticket issued in Loughborough and you will have to buy an Under 19 single.
The free child and youth bus fares initiative is being delivered on behalf of the Leicestershire Enhanced Bus Partnership which is a collaboration between the county council and the bus operators, funded by the Bus Service Improvement Plan plus allocation (BSIP+).
The aim is to encourage young people to explore the county by bus, it provides an opportunity for young people to travel independently and get out and about and save money
Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “Improving access to travel opens up lots of opportunities for Leicestershire’s young people. Youngsters can get out exploring in their community and, on top of that, they are choosing a sustainable way to travel - It’s a win-win for everyone involved.”
Nottingham City Transport is working alongside other operators involved in the initiative, which include Arriva, Centrebus, Diamond Bus East Midlands, First, Kinchbus, and Stagecoach.
