£2 Fares Extended
Nottingham City Transport is participating in the extended £2 fare cap scheme until the end of 2023, following the government's announcement of more funding.
Originally intended to increase to £2.50 from 1st November 2023, the maximum single fare will remain at £2 until 31st December 2023.
Participation beyond 1st January 2024 will be dependent on the negotiations and discussions between bus operators and the Department for Transport on the reimbursement rate and an announcement on NCT's involvement in 2024 will be confirmed when those discussions are complete.
Our Managing Director, David Astill said, "Greater Nottingham is held up nationally as a beacon of public transport excellence, with highly satisfied bus users and as a result, the highest bus use per head of population outside London & Brighton. We are a shining example of what can be delivered when quality bus operators work in partnership with supportive local authorities. It is heart-warming, that central government has awoken to the huge potential of the bus to deliver social inclusion and help regenerate our local areas. The promise of further funding for public transport in the Greater Nottingham area, if delivered, will allow even more ambitious plans to be put in place between bus operators and both Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils. The continuation of the £2 single fare cap will be welcomed by our customers struggling with the cost of living”.
