Vaisakhi Parade - Diversions to Buses

The Vaisakhi Parade, commemorating the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak and 30 years of the Nottingham Sikh Temple, is taking place on the morning of Sunday 14th April.

This parade will commence on The Forest Recreation Ground at 10am and make its way to the Old Market Square, where celebrations are taking place throughout the day, via Mansfield Road, Milton Street, Parliament Street and King Street. 

These roads will be closed, with buses diverted, and delays are expected throughout the morning. Follow us on Twitter for live updates.

Mansfield Road Services - Brown, Lime, Yellow and Purple Lines

Mansfield Road (from Forest Recreation Ground towards City) will be closed to all traffic in both directions from 10am until the Parade arrives in the City Centre.

Between 10am and approx. 11:30am, our Brown, Lime, Yellow and Purple Line buses to City will follow their normal route to Nottingham College (Clarendon) or the bottom of Sherwood Rise then divert via Gregory Boulevard, Alfreton Road, Canning Circus and Talbot Street to terminate on South Sherwood Street, alongside NTU City Campus.

South Sherwood Street will be the only pick up and drop off point in the City Centre.

  • Stop G1 for Lime 56, 58, 59 and Purple 87, 88, 89
  • Stop G2 for Brown 15, 16, 17 and Yellow 68, 69, 70, 71

Buses from City will depart South Sherwood Street and then exit the City via Upper Parliament Street, Canning Circus, Alfreton Road and the full length of Gregory Boulevard, where they will resume normal routes from the Goose Fair roundabouts. 

The following named stops will not be served and buses will not stop on diversion:

  • Forest Recreation Ground
  • Forest Road
  • Huntingdon Street
  • Woodborough Road
  • City, Victoria Centre (House of Fraser)
  • South Sherwood Street (stop G3)
  • Victoria Centre (Milton Street)
  • Parliament Street
  • York House
  • Frogmore Street

Customers will need to either alight at Nottingham College (Clarendon), on Sherwood Rise (Gregory Boulevard named stop) or on South Sherwood Street in the City Centre.

Sky Blue 45, 46, 47

With Mansfield Road and Milton Street closed, these buses will divert between 10am and approx. 11:30am. 

Buses to City will follow their normal route as far as Woodborough Road, then after departing the Shelton Street stop, buses will divert via Shelton Street, St Ann's Well Road, Beck Street to terminate on Lower Parliament Street, opposite the Pryzm Night Club (stop H3).

Buses towards Mapperley will depart Stop H3 (opposite Pryzm Night Club) and divert via Glasshouse Street and Huntingdon Street, to turn right on to Woodborough Road to resume normal route.

Stop H3 will be the only pick up and drop off point in the City Centre.The following named stops will not be served and buses will not stop on diversion:

  • Huntingdon Street
  • City, Victoria Centre (House of Fraser)
  • South Sherwood Street (stop G3)
  • Queen Street
  • Parliament Street
  • York House

City Centre Bus Stops

The Parade route in the City Centre includes Milton Street, Parliament Street and King Street. 

Whilst the Parade takes place, most buses in the City Centre will have to take alternative routes and use different stops. On Brown 15, 16, 17, Sky Blue 45, 46, 47, Lime 56, 58, 59, Yellow 68, 69, 70, 71 and Purple 87, 88, 89 these alternative routes and stops will be in use between 10am and 11:30am (see above).

On other affected services, these diversions will be implemented just prior to the Parade arriving in the City Centre, with live updates displayed on stops and on Twitter. These diversions are expected to be in place at some point between 10:30am and 11:30am, depending on the pace and speed of the Parade.

Customers should use the following stops only during this period:

  • Navy 1, 48 - not affected, normal stops will be used
  • Green 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 - Angel Row (A2) with the stops on George Street, Fletcher Gate and Victoria Centre not served
  • Green 10, 11 - Angel Row (A1) with the stops on George Street, Fletcher Gate and Victoria Centre not served
  • Brown 15, 16, 17 - South Sherwood Street (G2) with the Victoria Centre stop not served
  • Lilac 25, 27 - Lower Parliament Street, opposite Pryzm Night Club (H3) with Victoria Centre and King Street stops not served
  • Pink 28, 30 - Burton Street (T8) with the Victoria Centre stop not served
  • Orange 34 - not affected, normal stops will be used and buses will wait behind the Parade
  • Orange 35, 36 - Burton Street (T7) with the Victoria Centre and Elite stops not served
  • Blue 39, 40, 41, 42 - King Edward Street, near Pryzm Night Club (H4) with Victoria Centre and Queen Street stops not served
  • Red 43, 44 - Lower Parliament Street, opposite Pryzm Night Club (H3) with Victoria Centre and King Street stops not served
  • Sky Blue 45, 46, 47 - Lower Parliament Street, opposite Pryzm Night Club (H3) with Queen Street, Parliament Street and Victoria Centre stops not served
  • Lime 56, 58, 59 - South Sherwood Street (G1) with the Victoria Centre, Parliament Street and York House stops not served
  • Yellow 68, 69, 70, 71 - South Sherwood Street (G2) with the Victoria Centre stop not served
  • Turquoise 77, 78, 79 - not affected, normal stops will be used and buses will wait behind the Parade
  • Purple 87, 88, 89 - South Sherwood Street (G1) with the Victoria Centre, Parliament Street and York House stops not served
  • Pathfinder 100 - Lower Parliament Street, opposite Pryzm Night Club (H3) with Victoria Centre and King Street stops not served

Bus Named After Award Winning Nottingham Nurse

A Nottingham mum who has worked at Nottingham City Hospital for over 20 years has had a bus named after her after wining a special NHS Award
