Contactless Journeys FAQs

What time period is a “Contactless Day”?

A contactless day cap runs between 04:30 and 04:29 the following day.

How do you show journeys and payment days?

We group together all of the journeys you make during each Contactless Day (04:30-04:29) and display them under the date they were settled and we requested the money from your bank. This will be different to the date of the journeys, which you can see under each grey headed bar.

On some occasions, multiple payments may be debited from your account on the same day. This will happen for customers who travel on Friday, Saturdays or Sundays as some banks do not process all payments over the weekend as such, these will leave your account the following week.

The single fare is £3, so why are some journeys shown as £2.70?

As part of the Contactless Day caps, second and third journeys will show a lower value because you have reached a cap. For example, journey one will be £3 and journey two will be £2.70 because you’ve hit the NCT Day Cap of £5.70.

Something doesn’t look right, how do I query a journey or payment?

If you need to query a contactless payment or journey, please visit the Nottingham Contactless website

I cannot see all of my journeys, why are some missing?

This is most likely because you have used more than one payment card or device to make journeys, and they will be shown separately. This applies even when you use a mobile device linked to the same bank card, because they are treated as two different payment methods by the banking system.

Where can I see journey history if I used a device?

If you paid for your journey on your mobile phone or smart watch please check your Apple Pay or Google Pay account to view your transaction details. Some trips may appear straight away, others may take a day or two to appear.

How do transactions show on my bank account?

All transactions will show as a single transaction per day, regardless of how many trips you have made, and will appear as ‘Nottingham Contactless’ on bank statements, banking apps and on Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Some transactions will work through straight away or it could take a couple of days for others to show.

Some banks will update your account soon after your tap has taken place but before the funds are actually removed from your account. This is so that you can see any pending payments waiting to leave your account. These are known as ‘pre-authorised transactions’.

On some occasions, multiple payments may be debited from your account on the same day. This will happen for customers who travel on Friday, Saturdays or Sundays as some banks do not process all payments over the weekend as such, these will leave your account the following week.
