New £3 Fare Cap from January 2025

The Prime Minister has announced that the current £2 single fare cap will end on 31st December 2024 and that a new £3 single fare cap will be in place throughout 2025.
Bus operators have not yet been provided with details about how the new fare cap scheme will operate, but the new £3 single fare cap is the price a City Zone single would have been if there had not been the current £2 fare cap in place.
This is because our on bus fares have risen twice since the £2 single fare cap was introduced as we faced the challenges of double digit inflation. The City Zone single would have increased to £2.80 in May 2023 and to £3 in March 2024, but did not because of the government funding for the £2 fare cap.
Customers who make 2 journeys a day in the City Zone can minimise the impact of the changes to the national bus fare cap by switching to a £5.30 all day ticket, which is 70p cheaper than two single fares under the new £3 fare cap.
Regular travellers can save more by purchasing our Easyrider Everyday or Anyday passes, which offer even greater value all day travel.
Under 19 single tickets will remain at £1.70 because they are already below the price of the current and new fare caps. Student and Under 22 singles will be £2.30, which is the price they would be without the current £2 fare cap.
We will provide full details on fares from January 2025 once we have received further information and funding allocation from the Department for Transport.
