Personalised Travel Notifications
Nobody likes it when there’s disruption to their service, but road closures and diversions are sadly inevitable at times.
Some are pre-planned for road upgrades, resurfacing or utility works, but some happen without notice, such as for incidents or bad weather.
We post disruptions under Service Updates on our website and NCTX Buses app, as well as on social media. But this requires you to go looking for the information, often at the time you’re waiting for a bus giving you little warning.
To improve how we notify you about disruptions and planned network changes, we’ve rolled out personalised travel notifications on the NCTX Buses app – known more widely as push notifications. To take advantage of this new feature, please ensure you are using app version 75 or later.
These notifications will work based on your favourite stops and timetables, ensuring you only receive notifications that affect you.
Types of Notification
There are three types of notification:
- Disruptions: this includes stop closures or diversions to routes
- Network Changes: this is when we make permanent changes to routes or timetables, or operate a different level of service over a holiday period
- Network Alerts: this is when there is something significant affecting us, such as bad weather, issues with ticketing systems or our Travel Centre
Opt In
You have to opt in to receive personalised travel notifications.
Ensure you are using app version 75 or later.
Head to Settings then Notification Settings and select Personalised travel alerts and disruptions.
Setting Favourites
Your notifications are personalised based on your favourite timetables and stops. This ensures you only receive notifications that affect you.
Here’s how you save favourites, which you can also see under the Favourites menu:
Timetable
From any timetable view, tap the star at the top of the screen. This adds the route to your favourites.
Stop
From any departure board, tap the star at the top of the screen. This adds the stop to your favourites.
You can also:
- Go to the Explore menu
- Find your stop on the map (your nearby stops will be shown if you have location services enabled)
- Tap the stop
- Tap the star to the right of the stop name
- This adds the stop to your favourites
How It Appears on Your Device
When we push a notification to you, it will show as a Travel Alert on your device. Tap on the alert and you'll be taken to the full details of the disruption affecting you.
