Bio-Gas Station Works

It’s eight years since we introduced our first bio-gas buses and refuelling station.
Like any other intensely used machinery, regular maintenance and servicing is essential to keep it working and our bio-gas buses fuelled up.
When we fuel the buses, the bio-gas they receive is compressed to maximise the distance the buses can operate each day.
From Monday 14th July 2025, for two weeks, the main compressors in the refuelling station will receive a thorough mid-life service. This will require one compressor to be switched off each week, which will reduce the number of buses we can re-fuel each evening.
To minimise the impact of these works, we will be temporarily:
- Switching Sky Blue 60 to operate with our Uni4 branded buses, which are not in use because of the university holidays
- Using our Uni34 branded buses on any Orange Line service
- Changing buses during the daytime on our Lilac, Red and Turquoise Lines to refuel them during the day, rather than in the evening – this may mean you will have to change to another bus outside our depot at Parliament Street or on Canal Street
It may be necessary during these compressor works to allocate a bus that is not the usual colour for your route or one of our generic silver spare buses, so please check the destination on the front of the bus.
Thank you for your understanding and apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
